Bunim/Murray Productions has secured an exclusive overall production deal with Kreativ Inc., the newly minted prodco from former Zodiak USA CCO and CEO Joel Karsberg.
Under the deal, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians producer will exclusively provide backing to the production and development of Kreativ’s unscripted formats slate.
Joining Karsberg’s (pictured) new entity will be former Entertainment One director of development Jesse Daniels, who boards Kreativ as VP of development.
“Joel is a veteran unscripted executive with vast knowledge of international formats that not only travel but will also play well here in the United States,” said Bunim/Murray CEO Gil Goldschein, in a statement. “The pod model has been successful for BMP, contributing to the nearly 30 new series we have launched in the past two years. We are confident that Joel, Jesse and Kreativ Inc. will enable us to continue to expand into new areas of programming.”
Viacom-owned cable net MTV most recently announced that it had commissioned the first fruits of the BMP-Kreativ partnership via the social experiment dating series Undressed, in which two strangers must undress each other before getting to know one another by answering questions and performing challenges.
Karsberg will serve as showrunner on Undressed, which is based on an Italian format created by Banijay Group-owned Magnolia Italy. Banijay Rights will handle international distribution.
Karsberg has also served as exec producer on BMP and Film 45′s The Selection: Special Operations Experiment, which premiered last December on History and put 30 individuals with no military background through rigorous special-operations training.
Prior to the 2016 merger between content giants Banijay Group and Zodiak Media, Karsberg led development at Zodiak USA with a focus on adapting unscripted international formats for the U.S. market and served as EP on ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap and Travel Channel’s Planet Primetime.
Before joining Zodiak USA in 2014, Karsberg was CCO at Zodiak Nordic and chair of Zodiak’s international development board where he was responsible for the creative cooperation between Zodiak’s 45 subsidiaries, which operated between 15 different countries.
He also held the title of head of development for the Scandinavian division of Friday TV.
