In this week’s round-up, new non-fiction series are scheduled to debut across MTV, VH1, TLC and Discovery.
Viacom’s youth-focused network MTV is gearing up to broadcast the latest summer docusoap from Laguna Beach producers Creature Films and Entertainment One.
Siesta Key (pictured) follows a group of young adults as they navigate the drama that surrounds their lives in one of the country’s most exclusive beach neighborhoods. The series centers around couple Juliette and Alex, and the people that make up their close-knit community, as they deal with the issues of love, heartbreak and looming adulthood over the summer. The docusoap airs July 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
Elsewhere, Discovery Channel will push contestants to their limits as they live in complete darkness, enduring days buried underground.
Produced by Electus, Darkness will follow three survivalists as they’re trapped inside of cave systems, abandoned mines and underground labyrinths for up to six days at a time to test their mental and physical limits. The trio of contestants will work together as a team to “survive, stay sane and find the exit back to the light.” The series is inspired by sensory-deprivation training used by NASA and Special Forces. It premiers Aug. 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery.
Discovery’s sister network TLC, meanwhile, will chronicle the time before the K-1 Visa process begins in the prequel spin-off series to hit social experiment 90 Day Fiancé.
90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days from Sharp Entertainment will follow Americans who believe they’ve found the love of their lives through various methods including international dating websites and dating apps, and will chronicle their lives prior to meeting in person for the first time. The series will trace each would-be couple as they uncover hidden truths, navigate cultural differences and decide if their love is lasting. 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days debuts Aug. 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
Finally, Viacom-owned lifestyle network VH1 will head to the Florida coast to spotlight power couples in the city of Miami.
Produced by Shed Media, Baller Wives will follow Miami-based professional athletes and their wives navigating love, family and business. The six-part series, which premieres on Aug. 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, follows former NFL quarterback Michael Vick and his wife Kijafa; Stacey and Chris Chambers, a retired wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins; Miko and Brent Grimes of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Jeniva and former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel; former Miami linebacker Channing Crowder and wife Aja; and Kelly and Julius Jones, a former Dallas Cowboys running back.
