Discovery Networks has tapped former Google executive Karin Bonde to head the company’s digital content push in the Nordic region.

Effective Aug. 22, Bonde will be responsible for leading Discovery’s entertainment digital business across Sweden, Norway and Denmark, with oversight of growing SVOD service Dplay. All Dplay teams in the Nordic region will report to her.

Additionally, Bonde will be part of the Discovery Networks Sweden’s management team, working closely alongside Trine Fjellberg Falnes, Nordics VP of Eurosport in the Nordics, to secure and develop Discovery’s digital posture in the Nordic region.

Based in Discovery Networks Sweden’s Stockholm offices, Bonde will report into Mike Lang, who was named Discovery Networks International’s president of international development, digital and Discovery Nordics in November 2016.

With 16 years of experience in digital media and business development, Bonde most recently served as video solutions specialist at global tech giant Google and social video platform YouTube. Prior to that, she worked at Viasat’s digital video on demand service Viaplay.

Earlier this year, Discovery Communications announced it would be buying Scripps Networks Interactive for US$14.6 billion in a cash and stock transaction in an attempt to build a “global content engine”. That deal is expected to close by early 2018.
