CNN Films explores the secret U.S. military missions that initiated the operations in Afghanistan in the upcoming documentary Legion of Brothers.
A CNN Film copro with Passion Pictures, the documentary, directed and produced by Greg Barker, explores the mission that former president George W. Bush launched after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S.
Bush ordered the military to overthrow the Taliban regime and go after the terrorist organization known as al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden.
Following the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. military selected a handful of soldiers from the army’s elite Green Berets to execute the president’s mission. In the new doc, the Green Berets discuss for the first time to the public how they infiltrated Afghanistan, destroyed the Taliban government and pushed back against al-Qaeda.
Now, 16 years after these veterans’ mission, they and their families share their war experiences.
The film also looks at some casualties of the dangerous mission, and a devastating friendly fire incident that still haunts the veterans whose operation is detailed.
Legion of Brothers is executive produced by Amy Entelis and Vinnie Malhotra and premieres Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CNN..
