UK commercial broadcaster ITV2 has commissioned Keshet International’s London-based indie Keshet UK to produce the comedy entertainment series Celebrity Showmance.

The 6 x 60-minute social media-infused format (pictured) will see six single celebrities paired into three unlikely couples in an attempt to convince the public that they are romantically involved.

Narrated by British actor and rapper Doc Brown, each episode will see the celebs running through a series of challenges in an attempt to attract the most social media attention. Acting out scenarios inspired by iconic images and scenes from former celebrity couples, each task culminates with a photo or video posted to their social media page.

The fake celebrity duo with the highest number of likes and comments at the end of the series will be declared the ultimate “Celebrity Showmance”.

Featured partners in the series will be The Only Way is Essex star Chloe Sims and 5ive artist Abz Love; socialite Lady Victoria Hervey and footballer Jamie O’Hara; and actor Hayley Hasselhoff and Kyle Christie of Geordie Shore fame.

Celebrity Showmance was developed by Keshet UK’s David Williams, who also serves as the series’ creative director. Susan Maxwell is executive producer and Sarah Church is series producer. The series was ordered by ITV’s head of digital channels and acquisitions Paul Mortimer and commissioned by fact-ent commissioner Satmohan Panesar.

Keshet International will distribute the series to international buyers at the 33rd annual MIPCOM market, which runs Oct. 16-19 in Cannes.

“This show looks at the world of celebrity in a fun way, with its tongue firmly in its cheek and I hope that it strikes a chord with ITV2′s growing audience of younger viewers,” said Panesar in a statement.

“We all love a celebrity couple but as we know, sometimes all isn’t as it seems. But thanks to the hilarious efforts of our six courageous celebrities, Celebrity Showmance is a topical and affectionate take on the world of showbiz today,” Williams added.
