International broadcasters commission Talesmith and Cineflix for Rediscovering T-Rex

International broadcasters have commissioned factual prodco Talesmith and content creator and producer Cineflix to coproduce the dinosaur focused documentary Rediscovering T-Rex.

The new doc, commissioned by UK’s BBC in association with Canada’s CBC and France Télévisions (France 5) looks to expose the myths surrounding the Tyrannosaurus Rex which are fueled by gaps in scientific understanding.

Travelling the globe to gain insight from international experts, the program uncovers insights into not only what T-Rex looked like but also its behaviour. Utilizing new understanding from paleontology, zoology and technology, Rediscovering T-Rex will then attempt to create the most accurate CGI representation of the dinosaur ever produced.

Executive producers on the doc are Martin Williams for Talesmith and André Barro for Cineflix.

Cineflix Rights, the sales and distribution arm of Cineflix Media Inc., has the exclusive global rights to Rediscovering T-Rex and will be launching the copro to international buyers at Mipcom 2017.

Nippon TV elevates Kako Kuwahara

Japanese commercial broadcaster Nippon TV has elevated Kako Kuwahara (pictured) to the role of managing director for its International Business Development (IBD) division.

Based in Tokyo, Kuwahara will oversee all areas of IBD with the executives from that division reporting to her, while she reports to Atsushi Hatayama, president of IBD.

Previously, Kuwahara held the position of associate managing director at IBD. She transferred to the division in 2015 after working at the production, public relations, sales, and pay TV divisions of Nippon TV.

Since joining IBD in 2015, Kuwahara has had oversight of the GEM channel in Southeast Asia, and has, according to a statement, “mobilized the organization to create a quicker, more streamlined rights clearing process for Nippon TV content export sales.”

Barcroft Media launches free TV app

Indie factual content prodco and distribution company Barcroft Media is launching a free TV app.

The app will feature the company’s entire content catalog of both original Barcroft-produced and third-party programming and will be curated across the company’s channels – Barcroft TV, Barcroft Animals and Barcroft Cars – and series brands such as Born Different, Hooked on the Look, Cute as Fluff, Dog Dynasty and Ridiculous Rides.

After the launch, the app will exclusively premiere Barcroft-produced content 24 hours before it appears on Barcroft YouTube channel and other channels that license Barcroft content.

Starting Sept. 25, the app will be available on multiple platforms and devices including Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Now TV, mobile platforms iOs, Android, Windows 8 and smart TVs including Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba and LG.

Coinciding with the launch, the company has also greenlit production on more original mid-form content. These include pilots for several documentary strands such as Let’s Stray Together, a series exploring polygamy; courtroom ob-doc series Miami Law; and Get Nailed, about a group of characters who run a 24/7 Las Vegas nail bar.
