Part2Pictures has appointed National Geographic exec Robert Palumbo to the newly created position of VP, current programming.

In his new role, Palumbo (pictured, right) will manage Part2′s production slate with SVP, Amy Bucher. He reports to David Shadrack Smith, president of the company. He will also work to foster talent, concepts and network relationships with the development team led by Kristin Wendell.

Palumbo joins the Brooklyn-based prodco with more than 15 years of producing, directing and executive experience. Most recently he was an executive producer at National Geographic where he worked on the hybrid miniseries Mars; the Emmy-award winning Years of Living Dangerously; the feature-length thrillers Inside the Hunt for the Boston Bombers, Live Free or Die, No Man Left Behind; and the long-running Wicked Tuna.

Before joining NGC, Palumbo worked as a showrunner, producer and director in film and television, with credits including the HBO feature doc Left Of The Dial; Showtime’s This American Life; AMC’s Comic Book Men; and Discovery’s Fight Quest; and for History, the feature doc Reagan and the series Swamp People.

Part2Pictures has also elevated longtime producer Alex Meistrell to senior producer.

In the position, Meistrell will supervise series and specials, while working with the development team to develop ideas for the slate. Meistrell will continue to be an integral creative contributor to new and ongoing series.

Meistrell has been with the company since its earliest days and over the last decade has produced, directed and written for such Part2 projects as the Nat Geo series Hard Time, OWN’s Belief, CNN’s This is Life with Lisa Ling and Showtime’s docuseries Dark Net.
