Denver-based production and design studio Citizen Pictures has appointed former Animal Planet development exec Sydney Rutman as senior director of development.

In the new role, Rutman will be tasked with overseeing all elements of Citizen’s development slate. She reports into Tim McOsker, VP of production and development, as well as Citizen Pictures president Frank Matson.

“Sydney brings incredible experience and insight in both the linear and digital landscapes, and we’re thrilled to have her lead our team as we move into a variety of new platforms and networks,” said McOsker in a statement.

Prior to Citizen, Rutman served as manager of development at Discovery Communications’ Animal Planet. During her four-year tenure there, she developed series that include The Zoo, Dr. Dee: Alaska VetExpedition Mungo and Celebrity Animal Encounters, a collaboration with Facebook’s Watch.

Citizen produces such lifestyle programming as Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Giada at Home, Guy’s Family Reunion, Guy’s Family Road Trip, all for Food Network; Travel Channel’s Guy’s Cuban Adventure and Top Secret Swimming Holes; Bravo’s Going Off the Menu; and Destination America’s Smoked.
