In this week’s roundup, new nonfiction series and documentaries are scheduled to debut across Discovery Channel, TLC, TVO and CNBC.
Discovery Communications-owned lifestyle channel TLC is gearing up to spread good vibes in its naturopathic series The Healer (pictured).
Produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, the series follows 37 year-old Australian “energy healer” Charlie Goldsmith as he sets out to help people who have been failed by traditional medical practices, all while changing the minds of scientists, medical professionals and skeptics. With a process that takes less than 60 seconds, Goldsmith provides athletes, celebrities and other individuals with relief from such chronic and debilitating ailments as auto immune conditions, infections, severe body pain, inflammation and allergies. The six-episode series debuts Nov. 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
American cable network CNBC, meanwhile, is slated to venture inside one of life’s most pressure-filled experiences in the ITV Entertainment-made format The Job Interview.
Premiering Nov. 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with back-to-back episodes, the 10-part observational series follows a pair of employers each episode as they interview prospective employees for any number of jobs. With every awkward handshake and nervous laugh captured on camera, episodes will conclude with an interviewee getting hired. The series is based on the ITV Studios Format of the same name and is distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment Limited.
Elsewhere, Discovery Channel will search for the most talented survivalists and bushcrafters from across the country in Bushcraft Build-Off.
The competition series will test the primitive building skills that have allowed survivalists to thrive in the wilderness for generations. Hosted by Dual Survival‘sMatt Graham, the series will see two master bushcrafters competing in head-to-head builds – using only the natural materials in their immediate surroundings – to test their abilities in different environments, topography and primitive living challenges. The Original Productions-created series launches Nov. 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery.
Finally, Michèle Hozer’s feature-length documentary SponsorLand will receive its television debut when it airs across Canadian pubcaster TVOntario (TVO) on Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Produced by Cutting Factory, in association with TVO and the Canadian Media Fund, the 99-minute film chronicles the daily lives of a Syrian refugee family brought to Canada in the fall of 2015 by PEC Syria, a private sponsor group in Prince Edward County, who help them settle in their newfound homeland. The film captures the intimate dynamic between newcomers to Canada and their sponsors who commit money and emotional equity to support the resettlement of displaced peoples.
