UK pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned two new programs, including a series that has celebs selling items from their cars, and a doc that tackles marriage laws.
Wales-based Boomerang and Motion Content Group are producing the 20 x 30-minute series Star Boot Sale. The series follows five celebrities as they compete to sell unwanted items and memorabilia around the country, with proceeds going towards their favorite charities.
Some of the celebrities scheduled to appear include Anthea Turner, Joe Pasquale, Michelle Heaton, Sam Thompson (pictured) and Nancy Sorrell.
Elsewhere, C4 has also commissioned a doc from True Vision Aire which will examine whether Britain’s marriage laws should be updated.
In The Truth About Muslim Marriage (w/t, 1 x 60), Dr. Myriam Francois-Cerrah, a Franco-British writer, broadcaster and academic, presents the results from a C4 survey which found that many Muslim women in Britain are unaware that their religious marriages are not recognized in British law. As such, they don’t have the same rights afforded to couples in legally recognized marriage.
The hour-long one-off also looks at why some women may prefer not to have a civil ceremony and explores attitudes to polygamy. Francois-Cerrah interviews academics, lawyers, Imams and a group of Muslim women campaigning to update the marriage law to reflect multicultural and multi-faith Britain.
