“Bert Berns” doc heads to iTunes

The critically acclaimed music documentary Bang! The Bert Berns Story is now being released for purchase via the iTunes Movies store, fresh from a run of being exclusively streamed on Apple Music.

Narrated by Steve Van Zandt, the film tells the story of songwriter, producer and label chief Bert Berns, who was behind such hits as Twist and Shout, Hang On Sloopy, Brown Eyed Girl and Piece of My Heart. Directed by son Brett Berns and co-directed and edited by Bob Sarles, the film features interviews with such artists as Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, Keith Richards and Solomon Burke among others. The film has been released theatrically in the U.S. via Abramorama. (Barry Walsh)

AMC Global acquires docuseries AMC Visionaries for multiple territories 

AMC Global has acquired the year-round docuseries AMC Visionaries for Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The AMC Studios series teams with artists to spotlight the untold stories and histories of pop culture genres from the masters themselves.

Installments in the series will include Robert Kirkman’s Secret History of Comics, James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction, Eli Roth’s History of Horror (w/t) and Rap Yearbook (w/t).

The first installments will premiere later this year, with further installments to follow in 2018.

Silverlining secures sales and pre-sales for Brinkworth Films and Knickerbockerglory

Distribution agent and production finance broker Silverlining has secured a number of sales and pre-sales for UK indie producers Brinkworth Films and Knickerbockerglory.

Brinkworth’s Secret Life of the Long-Haul Flight (1 x 60) was sold to M6 France, N24 Germany, Prime New Zealand and RTL Netherlands. Also from Brinkworth Films is Wanted for Arrest (3 x 60, pictured) which follows the police tactical unit that tracks down and captures criminals on the run.

Elsewhere, season four of Knickerbockerglory’s long-running fixed-rig series GPs: Behind Closed Doors, has been picked up by Nat Geo People and will air as The Practice across German-speaking Europe, Denmark, Poland, Romania, Italy, Greece and Turkey. The format also airs on Lifestyle You in Australia, Discovery in the Nordics and Benelux and also RTE in Ireland.

Other new titles from the indie prodco include two documentary specials. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mandela’s birth in July 2018,  Mandela’s Unsung Heroes (1 x 60/90) revisits the infamous Rivonia Trial with Mandela’s surviving co-defendants; and Malaysia Air Disasters: The Untold Story (1 x 60/90) which features unseen footage and exclusive high-level access to those inside the situation room of the plane crash.
