Cannabis-focused news, entertainment and lifestyle OTT channel 420TV has named Douglas A. Lee as its general manager.

In his new role, Lee will oversee the channel’s key divisions—creative, content, technology, marketing and sales—under one POV.

Lee has been involved in the planning and execution of more than 20 networks/video services in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

His credits include heading the initial programming efforts for next-generation pay service, Epix, as EVP ; spearheading News Corp’s acquisition of Star-TV, the leading satellite platform in Asia; and helping to create Noggin, the first educational children’s network and a joint venture between Sesame Workshop and Nickelodeon.

Lee also negotiated the 420TV deal on behalf of OWNZONES Media Network and has been the architect of the channel’s programming as a programming head at OWNZONES.

“I’m thrilled to bring my wealth of experience to this venture, because I really believe we’re creating something totally different here,” said Lee, in a statement. “With 420TV, we’re targeting a huge niche and elevating the conversation around it by shooting all original content in 4K and bringing such a high caliber of on-air and production talent together.”

420TV is being prepped to launch in Jan 2018 through 420TV.com, as well as on iOS and Android (both mobile and tablet platforms). Recent commissions include Dutch marijuana series In Amsterdam—a 10-part 4K series, produced by OWNZONES Media Network and Zoomin Studios.
