Digital-first entertainment company Above Average has elevated Marc Lieberman to the newly-created position of president of studio.
In his new role, Lieberman is tasked with oversight of creative development and production of original programming and distribution of content via partnerships with networks and media companies.
Under his supervision, the company’s studio division will continue to develop and produce programming for digital and TV partners. Lieberman will oversee a bi-coastal team of studio executives with a new west coast development executive soon coming aboard. He continues to report directly to CEO Marc Hustvedt.
Lieberman joined Above Average in 2013 as SVP, business development and production. His role has expanded along with the company’s studio division, which has teamed with entertainment companies including Comedy Central, go90, IFC, NBC, TBS, truTV and YouTube Red.
During Lieberman’s tenure with Above Average, he has overseen production for several series and specials, including Alec Baldwin’s Love Ride for multiple platforms including truTV; Jingle Ballin’ with Liza Koshy for YouTube Red; Thank You and Sorry with Jack Antonoff for Google Play/Sony Music Originals.
He also initiated and launched Above Average’s sports comedy vertical, The Kicker, with Saturday Night Live writer, Bryan Tucker. To finance the launch, Lieberman brokered a partnership with Vox Media, Lenovo and the NFL
Before joining Above Average, Lieberman was VP of business development at The Onion and a producer for the Onion News Network which garnered him a Peabody and many Webby awards.
Lieberman also co-founded Cavalier Films where he produced and financed indie films including Familiar Strangers and Adam.
