Rob Smith will be stepping down from his role as head of unscripted at Endemol Shine USA.
Smith has been with the company for 15 years, overseeing the production of Endemol Shine’s series such as MTV’s Fear Factor; Page Six TV (Syndicated) and YouTube’s Best.Cover.Ever. He will continue with the company through the end of the year.
In his role, Smith also supervised the company’s development and production slate, current programming and the studio’s portfolio of shows, including daytime syndicated series Steve Harvey and Wipeout (ABC). Smith also shepherded the game show Deal or No Deal? and the two-time Emmy award-winning ABC series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Smith joined Endemol USA in 2002 as director, development. Prior to joining Endemol USA, he worked for Telepictures, serving as a supervising producer for the syndicated news magazine EXTRA.
“The timing was right for me to move on. Fifteen years is a long time, and I’ve been approached with some intriguing new opportunities,” said Smith, in a statement.”It was a hard decision, but something I’ve been thinking about for a while. We’ve been lucky enough to have a tremendous run of success. I am enormously grateful to ESNA CEO Cris Abrego and everyone at Endemol Shine, and I am especially thankful to those talented individuals I’ve worked alongside over the years, from our network partners to executive producers to PAs to make such memorable television together.”
Endemol Shine USA has yet to name Smith’s replacement.
“Rob has helped launch and oversee production on some of the most popular unscripted shows of the last decade,” said Abrego of Smith’s departure. “It has been a real pleasure working with him and I’ll certainly miss his creativity and work ethic. I understand his desire to pursue new challenges and wish him all the best.”
