Viacom-owned BET Networks has tapped in-house executive Scott M. Mills as president.
In his new position, Mills will oversee overall strategy and daily operations of BET Networks, including oversight of the brand’s programming, ad sales and digital teams. He takes up the post effective Jan. 1, 2018.
Mills is currently EVP and chief administrative officer at Viacom, where he oversees human resources, real estate and facilities and security.
He previously served as president and chief operating officer for BET Networks, where he launched the cable channel BET Her and mobile and digital video distribution operations.
Elsewhere, Debra Lee. Lee will continue as chairman and CEO, focusing on BET’s relationships with key external stakeholders and communities, and will serve as an advisor to Mills.
“Scott is a proven leader who has made exceptional contributions to Viacom and BET for more than 20 years,” said Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Viacom, in a statement. “His strong relationships across the industry – which were instrumental in securing our recent cross-house deal with Tyler Perry – as well as his track record of success initiating innovative creative ventures, including BET Experience, make him the right person for this role, as we continue to extend this brand across platforms and markets around the world.”
GM Michael Armstrong will continue in his role where he leads multiplatform scheduling, marketing, corporate communications and operations. He will report to Mills.
