The latest installment of Investigation Discovery’s ‘An American Murder Mystery’ franchise will broadcast across the American true crime network on Jan. 14.
Jodi Arias: An American Murder Mystery will re-examine the investigation and trial of Jodi Arias for the murder of 30-year-old ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander, who was found in the shower of his Mesa, Arizona home on June 4, 2008 with 27 stab wounds and a gunshot to the head.
After hearing of Alexander’s murder just weeks after breaking up, Arias called police offering her assistance. But while investigating the crime scene, law enforcement officials discovered a digital camera that was run through the wash at Alexander’s apartment, with recovered photos revealing that Arias was with Alexander the day he died.
Arias was convicted of first degree murder in the 2008 stabbing and shooting death of Alexander despite testifying that she killed Alexander in self-defense. Arias was sentenced in 2015 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Produced by American Media, Inc. and Jupiter Entertainment, the three-part event special will provide a comprehensive exploration of Alexander’s death that subsequently led to one of the most salacious public trials in recent history. The three-part mini-series will also feature exclusive interviews with key players involved with the case – including public defender Kirk Nurmi; Maricopa County deputy attorney Juan Martinez; and former detective Nathan Mendes – while examining Arias’ strange behavior that led to her arrest and conviction.
Executive producers on the three-part limited series are Allison Wallach, Tim McConville, Matt Sprouse, David Pecker, Patrick Reardon and Dylan Howard. Investigation Discovery’s Pamela Deutsch is senior executive producer.
Jodi Arias: An American Murder Mystery premieres Jan. 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Investigation Discovery.
“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and Jodi Arias is one hell of a scorned woman,” said Henry S. Schleiff, Group president of Investigation Discovery, Destination America and American Heroes Channel, in a statement. “The brutal murder of Travis Alexander is one of the most provocative crimes of the century, as a whirlwind romance transformed into a fatal attraction in a salacious trial that was tailor-made for the tabloids.”
