HBO Documentary Films acquires U.S. TV rights to Believer 

HBO Documentary Films has acquired the U.S. TV rights to Believer from Live Nation Productions.

Directed by Don Argott, the film follows Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds as he explores how the Mormon Church treats its LGBTQ members. With the suicide rate among teens in the state of Utah on the rise, Reynolds’ concern with the church’s policies sends him on an unexpected path of acceptance and change.

Believer will have its world premiere in the Documentary Premieres section of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and will debut this summer on HBO.

The film is produced by Heather Parry, Robert Reynolds and Sheena M. Joyce. It is executive produced by Michael Rapino, Dan Reynolds, Don Argott, Jeff Ciabattari, Willie Mercer, Adam Milano.

Believer marks the second film HBO has acquired from Live Nation Productions, following Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends), which debuted on the premium cable network in February 2017.

Armoza’s The Running Show heads to Spain

Spanish broadband operator Movistar has acquired the local rights to the Armoza Formats talk show format The Running Show.

Zanskar Producciones will produce the lifestyle show, which is set to premiere in January 2018 on Movistar’s channel #o under the local title El Running Show.  

In each episode of The Running Show (pictured), host Raul Gomez will go on a run, where he is joined by a variety of celebrity guests. From pop stars to relationship experts, the guests will have to keep with Gomez.

Stingray acquires music-focused streaming service Qello Concerts

Montreal-based Stingray Digital Group has acquired the assets of New-York based Qello Concerts, an OTT streaming service for concerts and music documentaries.

Stingray will leverage its respective global distribution agreements with other cable and satellite operators and telecommunication companies to grow the music-focused streaming service.

This transaction marks Stingray’s fifth acquisition in the 2018 fiscal year, preceded by Yokee Music Ltd., C Music Entertainment Ltd., SBA Music PTY Ltd. and Satellite Music Australia PTY Ltd.
