Telemundo, the Spanish-language division of NBCUniversal, has appointed Emmy Award-winning producer Francisco Suarez as executive VP of primetime realities and specials.

In his new role, Suarez will oversee in-house and third party-produced primetime reality programming, live events, specials and music tent poles. Based in Miami, he reports into Luis Silberwasser, president of Telemundo Networks.

Suarez will work closely alongside Telemundo Network’s programming team to develop entertainment format.s.

Suarez joins Telemundo after a 14-year career at Univision Communications, where he most recently served as senior VP of special events. Suarez held several senior titles during his tenure at Univision, including director of project development, VP and director of operations, and VP and director of special events.

He left Univision late last year following management restructuring to the network’s senior management team.

Telemundo is the the second largest provider of Spanish-language content in the U.S., behind Univision.

“Cisco brings decades of experience creating, directing and producing highly-rated alternative programming and specials in the Spanish-language television industry,” said Silberwasser in a statement. “His expertise and robust relationships in the entertainment industry will help us offer new, compelling and unique formats that will strengthen and grow our U.S. Hispanic-focused programming strategy.”
