UK pubcaster BBC has commissioned Plimsoll Productions for Coast and Country Auctions.

The 10 x 45-minute series is the Bristol-based prodco’s first daytime series commission for the pubcaster.

Narrated by British actor Stephen Tompkinson, the series looks at the stories behind some of Britain’s traditional markets and auction houses. Locations featured include the Brixham Fish Market in Devon, the Bala Sheepdog Sale in North Wales and the Spalding Veg and Plant Auction — Britain’s oldest and biggest horticultural and vegetable sale. The series follows the auctioneers, buyers and sellers who work within these institutions.

Coast and Country Auctions was commissioned by Carla-Maria Lawson for BBC1. For Plimsoll, Karen Plumb serves as executive producer and Steven Clarke serves as series producer and director. It airs on BBC1 on March 5.

Since its launch five years ago, Plimsoll has created series such as Life at the Extreme with Davina McCall for ITV and live events such as Earth Live! for Nat Geo. Additional credits include Rescue Dogs to Super Dogs for Channel 4/Animal Planet, Camp Zambia for Blue Ant/Smithsonian and Channel 4′s First Brit: Secrets of the 10,000 Year Old Man.
