Distributor and prodco Roadside Attractions and global film and television studio Miramax are slated to release a documentary about the life and career of Whitney Houston
Produced by Lightbox and Lisa Erspamer Entertainment, Whitney will look at the late icon’s life and examine the highs and lows of her career.
The documentary is directed by Kevin MacDonald, whose credits include feature films The Last Kind of Scotland and State of Play, as well as the Academy Award-winning documentary One Day in September
Houston broke more records than any other female singer in the history of pop music, selling more than 200-million albums worldwide. But her achievements became overshadowed by a story of inner turmoil, addiction and self-destruction.
Whitney was officially supported by the late singer’s estate and includes previously unreleased recordings, rare never-before-seen footage and live performances recorded by Houston at various stages her life, offering a behind-the-scenes look of the singer.
Patricia Houston, Nicole David, Zanne Devine, Rosanne Korenberg, Joe Patrick, and Altitude Film Entertainment’s Will Clarke, Andy Mayson and Mike Runagall executive produced.
Along with the U.S., Miramax has also acquired rights for more than a dozen territories for Whitney, including Canada, Latin America, China, CIS and Benelux.
Executive producers Altitude Film Entertainment are handling international sales, and their distribution arm will release the film in the UK and Ireland on July 6th.
The film about the late singer is the third collaboration between Roadside Attractions and Miramax. The two companies previously partnered on 2015′s Mr. Holmes and Southside With You.
Whitney rolls out in the U.S. on July 6th.
