Propagate acquires Life on Duty format rights for U.S.

A+E Networks-backed studio Propagate Content has acquired the primetime fact-ent format Life on Duty for the U.S. market from Tel Aviv-based distributor Gil Formats.

Created by Gil Formats and originally developed by Israel’s Channel 10, the localized adaptation will provide an in-depth look at the personal and professional lives of various emergency services personnel across the police, fire and hospital trauma departments in America.

The deal follows the recent recommissioning of the format for a second season by Mediaset’s Cuatro, and new deals in France and Canada.

“Emergency services workers and first responders put their lives on the line and are America’s unheralded everyday heroes,” said Propagate’s Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens in a joint statement. “We believe Life on Duty will resonate with viewers here in the United States and are excited to bring this emotionally charged format to market.”

Samuel Goldwyn Films takes Rose Marie doc

California-based distributor Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the worldwide rights for English-speaking territories to Jason Wise‘s feature-length documentary Wait for Your Laugh (pictured).

The 85-minute film, which held its world premiere at the 2017 Mill Valley Film Festival, chronicles the life and nine-decade career of iconic singer, actor, and comedienne Rose Marie (born Rose Marie Mazzetta).

The documentary profiles Rose Marie’s rise to fame from the age of four with her own NBC radio show, captures the complicated relationship with her father – a man with mob ties – and documents how her career was helped by members of organized crime including Al Capone and Bugsy Siegel.

Shot on Kodak’s 35mm and 16mm film stock, Wait for Your Laugh features never-before-seen color footage and home archive filmed by Rose Marie as well as by late husband and famed trumpeter Bobby Guy.

Samuel Goldwyn Films will release a DVD with extras in early spring, in addition to releasing the film across numerous digital platforms.

Wait for Your Laugh is produced by Forgotten Man Films, Jason Wise, Christina Wise and Jackson Myers. Executive producers on the film include Georgiana Guy Rodrigues, Diane Carpenter, David Carpenter, William Fowler, Debra Davis and Melissa Gail April Klein.
