ITV has appointed Channel 5 exec Lara Akeju as commissioning editor, daytime.
At Viacom-owned Channel 5, in the position of commissioning executive, factual and news, she oversaw the refresh of 5 News and the re-launch of the daytime discussion program The Wright Stuff, and commissioned peak-time factual series.
She also revamped seasoned factual series including The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies, Winter Road Rescue and Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords.
Before working at Channel 5, Akeju worked at UK pubcaster Channel 4 as project lead, Paralympics and TV Events. Before this role, she was a development manager on the creative diversity team, where she developed projects including A Very British Brothel, My Trans Story and Disabled Fight Club.
Akeju began her career in television as a researcher at BBC Birmingham, before moving on to direct and produce programs including Heir Hunters from Flame TV for BBC1; Peckham Finishing School for Girls from BBC Current Affairs for BBC3; and Beauty and The Beast: The Ugly Face of Prejudice from betty for Channel 4.
