44 Blue Productions has acquired the scripted and unscripted rights to the story of the modeling and talent agency Wilhelmina Models, and its founder Wilhelmina Cooper.
The partnership deal will result in multiple projects, and includes an access-driven documentary, co-developed by the two companies, inside the agency and its business decisions and strategy ahead of Fashion Week.
Before Cooper launched her agency, she was one of the top models in U.S. Vogue in the 60s. In 1979, she opened her company, at a time when female business owners were scarce. Over its years as a formidable agency in the fashion world, Wilhelmina Models has launched or managed the careers of Patti Hansen, Beverly Johnson, Gia Carangi, and Naomi Sims, among others.
“We’re honored to collaborate on multiple projects around the Wilhelmina brand, but most importantly to be able to tell the story of Wilhelmina herself - a fierce trailblazer and role model for women in business,” says 44 Blue president and co-founder Stephanie Noonan Drachkovitch. “Way before the era of CEO-as-superstar, her vision, determination and business acumen put her on the cover of Fortune and transformed Wilhelmina Models into an international business and pop culture powerhouse that still thrives to this day.”
