Multichannel broadcaster UKTV has appointed ITV Studios exec Ronan Hand to the newly created position of director of program funding.
In the new title, Hand will be tasked with coordinating an approach to funding original programs, including commercial partnerships, copros and program distribution. Additionally, he will also be responsible for expanding UKTV’s international sales footprint and strengthening the role of advertiser funded programming.
Hand and his team will work closely with the commissioning team, led by director of commissioning Richard Watsham. He will report into Simon Michaelides, chief commercial officer, when he joins the network’s ranks in May.
The role, which sits within the UKTV commercial team, “is designed to better enable the broadcaster to realize its ambitions in IP ownership and original commissions,” according to a UKTV release.
Hand joins from ITV Studios where he is SVP of global content, non-scripted and co-productions, and is currently responsible for managing ITV Global Entertainment‘s non-scripted content, shepherding copros domestically and internationally, and acquiring and investing in non-scripted programming from global production partners.
Prior to joining ITV Global Entertainment in 2012, Hand was head of global acquisitions for the Fox International Channels Group. Before that, the executive held previous roles at Flextech and Virgin Media TV in the UK.
