Premium cable net HBO has started production on a documentary about Arizona Senator John McCain.
New York-based Kunhardt Films will produce the doc that profiles the six-term senior senator, Vietnam prisoner-of-war and 2008 Republican presidential nominee.
McCain agreed to take part in the film shortly after being diagnosed with brain cancer and will provide access to his daily life in Washington, DC and Sedona, Arizona. The doc features McCain’s voice, taken from original interviews, commentary and speeches, in combination with archival footage, and unseen home movies and photographs.
The film also features interviews with family, friends, colleagues and political figures.
Kunhardt Films’ previous HBO credits include Emmy winner Jim: The James Foley Story and the PGA-nominated The Newspaperman: The Life and Times of Ben Bradlee. The prodco’s work for the cable network also includes the Emmy-nominated films Nixon by Nixon: In His Own Words and Gloria: In Her Own Words, as well as the Emmy-winning biography of Ted Kennedy, Teddy: In His Own Words.
