Discovery, Inc.’s Science Channel has commissioned UK indie Twofour to produce engineering series The Impossible Engineering: Extreme Railroads.

The unscripted series puts a spotlight on the top rail systems in the world, including New York’s Arthur Kill Vertical Lift Bridge, Japan’s Bullet Train, and California’s Central Pacific Railroad.

High-tech graphic animation will help tell the story of each transportation system, while also looking at the pioneers and science behind the incredible engineering accomplishments.

Other episodes will focus the camera’s lens on mountain railways, impossibly fast bullet trains, railroads that connect urban jungles, and those that cross challenging terrains.

The Impossible Engineering: Extreme Railroads will premiere on Science Channel on May 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

TwoFour Broadcast’s executive producer is Neil Edwards, while Science Channel’s Lindsey Foster-Blumberg serves as supervising producer, and Vicky Bernal is associate producer.
