Global content producer and distributor Endemol Shine Group’s format Tough Old Landlords has scored its first international deal with Dutch broadcaster NPO.

The premise of the format sees older people opening their homes to become first-time landlords to young people in their 20s and 30s for whom renting is a fact of life.

Originally created by Sharp Jack, part of Endemol Shine UK, the factual entertainment format will be produced by Simpel Media, part of Endemol Shine Netherlands (I am Leaving, Love without Boarders). Simpel Media also produces a local version of Endemol Shine Group’s global format Hunted.

Sharp Jack, part of the Endemol Shine UK umbrella, is headed by former ITV Studios creative execs Elliot Johnson and Amanda Wilson (pictured). The two are currently in talks with UK broadcasters about making local versions of the show.

Tough Old Landlords brings together great characters from different generations that would never have otherwise met and is packed with funny and warm moments as they navigate life under the same roof,” said Lisa Perrin, CEO of Creative Networks at Endemol Shine Group, in a statement. “We’re hugely excited the format has already sold to the Netherlands and with discussions underway with broadcasters in the UK we hope this news will fast track the format around the world.”
