Tom Seaver, the Major League Baseball pitcher who led the New York Mets to their first-ever World Series win in 1969, is the subject of an upcoming documentary.

This marks the first documentary from director Ed Burns, who has previously worked in fiction films and television as a producer, director and actor. The project is being a copro between Burns and Aaron Lubin’s Marlboro Road Gang Productions and StreetSmartVideo.

The currently unnamed film project will follow Seaver’s 20-year career, with all of the triumphs and controversies - including  the championship season, his departure from the Mets, and his Baseball Hall of Fame induction – with interviews from Seaver himself and his wife, Nancy.

There will also be appearances from baseball greats Hank Aaron, Johnny Bench, Carlton Fisk and Tony LaRussa, as well as previously unseen family photographs and both personal and MLB footage.

Burns’ documentary will be released next year in time for the 50th anniversary of the 1969 World Series – which took place in October.
