Channel 5 taps IWC, Motion Content Group to uncover Secret Scotland

UK commercial broadcaster Channel 5 has commissioned IWC, a Banijay Group company, and Motion Content Group to produce a 5 x 60-minute series about the untold stories behind Scotland’s iconic destinations.

Secret Scotland with Susan Calman (w/t; pictured), sees the Scottish comedian and television presenter joining experts as she explores Highland dancing, a medieval castle and golf at St. Andrews.

Other locations include Edinburgh Castle, Rosslyn Chapel and Skara Brae.

Secret Scotland with Susan Calman was commissioned by Guy Davies at Channel 5 and executive produced by Gerard Costello at IWC and Melanie Darlaston at Motion Content Group.

DRG partners with The Format Factory

London-based indie TV distributor DRG and The Format Factory have secured a partnership that will see the two organizations working together on developing format ideas, which DRG will take to international broadcasters.

The 360 distribution company will also support The Format Factory’s existing slate. DRG will offer creative and financial backing for production, and work with the local producers and broadcasters in the acquiring territories to ensure that the integrity of the format is retained.

The Format Factory is the newly minted unscripted sister company to Free@Last TV, from Barry Ryan and David Walton. Free@Last is now dedicated wholly to scripted, with its other genres moving to Format Factory, including biography shows Legendary and Hello! I Thought You Were Dead, singing format Bouncing Ball, and reality TV format Nashvilified.

Blue Ant Media gives Great Canadian Cottages the greenlight

Canadian media conglomerate Blue Ant Media is teaming up with Toronto-based Architect Films for a new original cottage docuseries, Great Canadian Cottages (8 x 30 minutes).

Presented by design experts Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan, the series will share the stories of Canadians with extraordinary cottages and cabins built in the Canadian wilderness. The design duo will give tours of distinctive cottages, with the owners and architects giving analysis of the cottage’s designs.

The 8 x 30-minute documentary series is set to go into production in June, and slated to air on Cottage Life this fall.

Great Canadian Cottages will be available for international licensing through Blue Ant Media’s distribution arm, Blue Ant International.

Mike Sheerin serves as executive producer and Joanne Virgo serves as series producer. Blue Ant Media head of original content, Canadian Media Sam Linton, oversees the series.
