Hulu has ordered a documentary exploring the various sexual abuse allegations facing R&B singer R. Kelly from BuzzFeed Films.

The film will feature BuzzFeed News’ reporting from veteran music critic, radio host Jim DeRogatis, who has covered the singer for almost two decades and who penned the story that brought the extent of allegations concerning Kelly back into the media spotlight, and deputy national editor Marisa Carroll, who has overseen BuzzFeed News’ ongoing coverage of the story. DeRogatis serves as a consulting producer on the film and will provide exclusive commentary.

The feature doc will also include key figures from the story, including some who have made the allegations and past associates.

Streaming exclusively on Hulu, the film will be directed by Lyric Cabral, who helmed (T)error, and is exec produced by Field of Vision’s Laura Poitras and Charlotte Cook (pictured). The project was developed by Linzee Troubh and Shani Hilton of BuzzFeed News.

BuzzFeed’s Follow This, a 20-episode series featuring its journalists, will debut via Netflix on July 9.

The news follows an announcement from A+E Networks’ Lifetime that it has an R. Kelly docuseries and film on tap, with the as yet untitled documentary series being produced by Kreativ Inc. and also exploring the allegations surrounding the singer.
