UK pubcaster Channel 4 and Barefaced TV, part of the Argonon Group, are looking to solve Britain’s body confidence issue in an upcoming series.

Last year three new studies by Dr. Keon West of Goldsmiths University showed that people’s body image and self-esteem could be improved by seeing more normal, naked bodies and spending more time with their own naked bodies.

The tentatively titled The Beach (6 x 60 minutes) is turning to science and stripping in a quest to help people feel better about themselves. The series will follow West and body image and mental health campaigner Natasha Devon as they oversee an island retreat where, each week, three people suffering from body confidence join a returning cast of near-naked body positive Brits of all shapes and sizes.

The ‘host’ cast, clad in elaborate body paint to cover their modesty, will encourage the three guests to feel good in their own skin by undertaking a range of activities with the goal of improving their self-image.

The Beach was commissioned by Vivienne Molokwu, commissioning editor for features at Channel 4. Executive producers are Rosie Bray and Lucy Golding.

The Beach will hit airwaves later this year on Channel 4.
