Channel 4 decreases gender pay gap
UK pubcaster Channel 4 has reduced its mean gender pay gap over the last year.
According to the organization’s 2018 Gender Pay Gap results, there was a reduction from 28.6% at March 31, 2017, to 22.7% of the same date in 2018, for a decrease of 5.9 percentage points.
The mean bonus gap also shrank from 47.6% in 2017 to 39.4% in 2018.
This result was driven mainly by increasing numbers of women employed in senior positions, with the proportion of women in the upper quartile of C4 rising from 44.6% in 2017 to 47.6% in 2018.
C4 chief executive Alex Mahon (pictured) made the announcement Tuesday (June 26) of the results during Channel 4′s 2017 Annual Report session with the DCMS Select Committee. The reduction in gender pay inequality in 2018 follows a strategy outlined by Mahon to improve the progression of women at senior levels at the pubcaster, with a target of 50:50 gender balance for the top 100 earners by 2023.
The main driver of C4′s Gender Pay Gap “is the imbalance of men at women at different levels of the organization – with more men in higher-paid roles and more women in lower-paid roles.”

“All The Queen’s Horses” heads to Netflix
Global streaming company Netflix has picked up director and producer Kelly Richmond Pope’s award-winning documentary, All The Queen’s Horses.
A co-production of Kartemquin Films and Helios Digital Learning, All The Queen’s Horses spotlights Rita Crundwell, the perpetrator of the largest case of municipal fraud in U.S. history. As city comptroller of Dixon, Illinois, Crundwell stole US$53 million dollars of public money across two decades to build one of the country’s leading quarter horse breeding empires, all while forcing staff cuts, police budget slashing, and neglect of public infrastructure. All The Queen’s Horses investigates her crime, her lavish lifestyle and the small town she left in her destruction.
The film took home the HBO Spotlight Award for Best Documentary at its world premiere in August 2017 at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, and the Golden Laurels Award at the 2018 Beloit International Film Festival.
All the Queen’s Horses was co-produced and edited by Lesley Kubistal, and is executive produced by Ivy Walker, Justine Nagan, Gordon Quinn, Betsy Steinberg, Justin Dearborn, and Nicholas Gialamas. The film is distributed online by Gravitas.
All the Queen’s Horses will be available to stream on Netflix on July 10.
The Prophecy of the Popes heads to Poland
Producer and distributor Prime Entertainment Group has inked a deal with the Polish channel Polsat for the documentary The Prophecy of the Popes.
The 1 x 90-minute documentary, which will air this September on Polsat, examines the 12th-century text known as The Prophecy of the Popes, in which the Irish archbishop Saint Malachy allegedly foretells the end of the papacy, the destruction of Rome, and the Last Judgement.
As for almost 900 years, the Prophecy of the Popes has proven its merits and seems to have predicted the future. The documentary goes on a journey to test the ancient text against fact and proven events.
ITVS GE secures raft of CEE deals
ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has secured two Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) territories for its format Four Weddings.
Four Weddings, which follows four different brides as they each judge each other’s big day, will premiere on Polsat in Poland (10 x 60 minutes) and in Croatia on RTL (30 x 60 minutes). In Russia, broadcaster Friday TV has also commissioned a new series of the show (16 x 60), five years after it last aired in the region. Four Weddings has now reached over 20 countries.
Friday TV has also recommissioned Hell’s Kitchen for a second series (17 x 60 minutes), with Nova TV in Bulgaria following suit, ordering 48 episodes of the 60-minute series.
Meanwhile, The Chase returns for a sixth series in Serbia on RTS 1 (36 x 60 minutes) and for a seventh series in Croatia on HRT (153 x 60 minutes).
