Talya Tibbon and Joshua Bennett‘s Sky and Ground, and Bennett and Juliana Schatz-Preston’s Los Comandos are among the documentaries selected to launch season three of WORLD Channel’s weekly showcase ‘Doc World’.

The ‘Doc World’ strand focuses on showcasing stories that provide intimate coverage of international issues, providing viewers with a chance to “understand the lives and concerns of people beyond U.S. borders.”

Anchoring season three’s slate is Tibbon and Bennett’s Sky and Ground, which follows the Nabi family over a three-month journey from Aleppo, Syria in search of safe harbor through Greece and into Hungary, Austria and eventually Berlin, Germany. Producers on the film are Joshua Bennett, Maro Chermayeff, Jeff Dupre and Talya Tibbon.

Los Comandos, meanwhile, treks to El Salvador to document the emergency medical unit Los Comandos de Salvamento as it stands up to a reign of terror brought on by gang violence. Producers on the film include Joshua Bennett, Jeff Dupre, Maro Chermayeff, Juliana Schatz-Preston and Jessica Chermayeff.

Also premiering across the strand this fall is Towards the North from filmmakers Jessica Chermayeff and Joshua Bennett. The film provides unprecedented access into the world of asylum seekers who have reached a refugee shelter in Tapachula, Mexico after fleeing extreme gang violence in Central America. The doc follows the plight of Nelly and her daughter Joseline as they attempt to reach the U.S. border. Maro Chermayeff, Jeff Dupre, Joshua Bennett and Jessica Chermayeff are producers on the film.

WORLD Channel has partnered with Show of Force to bring films from their Humanity on the Move initiative to viewers across the country.

“Our goal in creating these films is to shed light on different narratives surrounding immigration and refugees. In our partnership with WORLD Channel, we’ve got an incredible opportunity to reach so many more viewers through a national broadcast premiere,” said Joshua Bennett, EVP of Show of Force, in a statement. “Our hope is that sharing these immersive, human-centered stories will build empathy among viewers and empower them to give back.”

‘Doc World’ returns this September with new programs airing Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on WORLD Channel. Sky and Ground premieres Sept. 9, followed by Los Comandos and Towards the North on Sept. 16.

‘Doc World’ is produced and curated by WORLD Channel with major funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Wyncote Foundation.

Information on the full lineup of films for ‘Doc World’ season three is now available on ‘Doc World’s website.
