Glasgow-headquartered IWC, a Banijay Group company, has named Mark Downie as creative director.

Downie will be tasked with growing the prodco’s creative output to expand its current popular and specialist factual slate, which has included such programming as Nat Geo’s Science of Stupid and Channel 4′s Location, Location, Location among others. He reports to Peter Langenberg, group COO and interim managing director, IWC.

Downie most recently served as executive producer on ITV’s RTS-nominated Gordon Ramsay on Cocaine and as a development executive at indie Label1 and Banijay-owned 7Wonder creating factual and documentary series.

Downie joined the freelance world from Maverick Television, where, between 2013 and 2016, he was chief creative officer. Having begun there as an executive producer in 2006, during his tenure, he helped launch¬†Embarrassing Bodies (C4), Bizarre E.R. (BBC3) and The Truth About Sugar (BBC1), and oversaw CBBC’s award-winning Operation Ouch!

Downie also held roles at the BBC and Channel 4, where he was editor, daytime and deputy commissioning editor, features. During his tenure at Channel 4,  he commissioned Come Dine With Me, Deal or No Deal and Coach Trip.
