Documentary conference and festival DOC NYC has placed an open call for its newly launched initiative that looks to celebrate emerging talent from across the documentary world.

The new initiative, titled “40 Under 40″, will honor those under the age of 40 plying their trade in the documentary genre, feting directors, producers, cinematographers and editors.

Those selected as 40 Under 40 honorees will participate in exclusive networking meetings with key financiers, distributors, broadcasters and industry figures during the festival’s “Only in New York” sessions at DOC NYC PRO at Cinepolis Chelsea.

To qualify for consideration for the 2018 class, nominees must have at least one credit as either a director, producer, cinematographer or editor on a feature-length documentary with national distribution via theaters, television or a digital platform.

Interested parties must also be born in 1979 or later and be based in the U.S. or Canada to be considered. Veteran documentary filmmakers and industry figures can also submit a recommendation for nominees on the DOC NYC website until Aug. 17.

A list of 40 honorees will be selected by the festival’s programming team.

40 Under 40 will sit under the umbrella of the festival’s 2018 DOC NYC PRO programming slate and is co-presented with First Look Media’s Topic Studios.

The 2018 edition of DOC NYC takes place Nov. 8-15 at the IFC Center, the SVA Theatre and the Cinepolis Chelsea.

“At DOC NYC, we’re always looking for fresh voices,” said DOC NYC’s artistic director Thom Powers in a statement. “The 40 Under 40 initiative allows us to spotlight the best and the brightest of a new generation.”

“We’re so glad to partner with DOC NYC to co-host the inaugural 40 Under 40,” added Adam Pincus, EVPof programming and content for Topic/First Look Media. “It’s a huge priority for Topic to seek out new storytellers at the forefront of culture so we are especially looking forward to engaging with rising talent and finding new ways to collaborate.”
