London-based prodco Blink Films is launching a one-off archaeological dig special that will aim to provide a monumental unveiling of royal remains.

Premiering on Discovery Channel and Science Channel in 2019, Valley of the Kings will offer an unprecedented look at the Egyptian valley where, for a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, tombs were excavated for the pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom.

The project will venture exclusively inside the first major excavation in a generation with renowned Egyptologist and archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, and a crew made up of more than 100 Egyptians workers, attempting to uncover the lost treasures of Egypt.

The excavation will take place in the largely untouched western portion of the valley, where leading archaeologists believe several royal tombs lie hidden. Using cutting edge technology, the series immerses audiences inside the search for answers in a land full of mystery—the search for the secrets buried in the sand.

Blink Films’ Justine Kershaw will executive produce the project alongside Jon Bardin for Discovery.
