MGM-owned premium cable network Epix has commissioned an original late night comedy docuseries from executive producer Wanda Sykes.

Produced by MGM Television and Push It Productions, Unprotected Sets will provide an “unfiltered” look into the world of stand-up comedy, through the eyes of up and coming comedians from across America.

Comedians on the verge of becoming the next big name in comedy will be profiled intimately in each episode, with breakout talent offering insight into their comedic aspirations and motivations. Episodes will also see each comedian performing a stand-up set to illustrate how they turn life into art.

The 12-episode series will be shot in Portland, San Diego, Washington DC, Minneapolis and Atlanta.

Push It’s Sykes and Page Hurwitz serve as executive producers alongside Barry Poznick, president of MGM’s unscripted television and MGM Television. Hurwitz will also serve as showrunner.

Unprotected Sets premieres Oct. 5 at 11 p.m. ET/PT across Epix.

The series will be produced MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.

Unprotected Sets is another strong addition to our unscripted lineup, presenting stand-up through a personal, unfiltered lens,” said Epix president Michael Wright in a statement. “We can’t wait to work with Wanda, Page and their very talented teams to tell the stories of some of the best comedians working today.”

“We’re excited that we get another opportunity to give up-and-coming comics a chance to shine,” added Sykes.
