BBC Studios hires directors of content sales

BBC Studios has added two new directors of content sales in its Toronto office.

The British producer-distributor has added Jodi Mackie (pictured left), formerly of Distribution360, and promoted Brad Horvath (right), who previously served as a content sales manager.

Reporting to Michael L Smith, SVP of TV sales and coproductions, Mackie and Horvath will manage content sales to clients in both English- and French-speaking Canada, as well as identify and secure coproduction opportunities.

Mackie spent 10 years as director of international sales and acquisitions at Breakthrough Entertainment before moving to D360 in November of last year.

Horvath has worked at BBC Studios for the past four years. Prior to that he worked at Cineflix in Toronto as a sales and acquisitions executive.

PNP takes Michael Caine doc to Canada

Vancouver-based producer-distributor Pacific Northwest Pictures (PNP) has acquired all Canadian rights to the Michael Caine-narrated doc My Generation (pictured).

Directed by David Batty (Maggie and Me) and co-written by Ian La Frenais (Porridge) and Dick Clement (The Bank Job), the doc is based on Caine’s (The Dark Knight) personal accounts and follows the cultural changes that took place in 1960s London. The feature made its premiere at Venice Film Festival in 2017.

PNP picked up the doc from U.S.-based Gravitas Ventures, a division of Red Arrow Studios and will open the film in a number of theaters across Canada, including Toronto’s Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema (beginning Sept. 29), Vancouver’s Vancity Theatre (Sept. 11 to 15) and Ottawa’s Bytowne Theatre (Oct. 1 to 4). The Canadian distributor will also partner with TVA Films to distribute the film in Quebec.

My Generation will be released by Gravitas in the U.S. on Aug. 14.

Producers on the doc include Caine, Clement, La Frenais, Simon Fuller (American Idol) and Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly (Lady Macbeth). James Clayton (Closer) is an exec producer.

Editor’s note: an earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Brad Horvath’s previous title as senior sales coordinator. Horvath was content sales manager.
