Former Vice Media executive Neil Breakwell has been appointed head of topical programs at London- and New York-based television prodco October Films.

Breakwell’s new role will involve executive producing new programming with a focus on live shows, fast-response docs, younger-skewing formats and integration across all of October’s platforms.

Breakwell was most recently VP of news and current affairs at Vice Media. During his three-year tenure at the youth-minded media corporation, Breakwell developed factual content for Vice and other broadcasters and platforms, including BBC and HBO.

Prior to Vice, he was deputy editor of BBC’s Newsnight, where he produced the pubcaster’s coverage of the UK and U.S. elections, among various roles at the UK broadcaster.

“Neil brings a wealth of experience of producing exciting, innovative content for both traditional broadcasters and online platforms,” said October Films MD Adam Bullmore in a statement. “He’s the perfect fit to complement the October team as we continue to expand our output for broadcasters in the UK and internationally.”

October is currently in production on several titles for Channel 4, BBC, Investigation Discovery, Science Channel and Lifetime.
