ITV’s Carolyn McCall to keynote MIPCOM

Carolyn McCall, CEO of British commercial TV network ITV, has been added to this year’s MIPCOM Media Mastermind Keynote lineup.

Taking to the MIPCOM stage for the first time, the ITV chief (pictured) will outline the network’s recently unveiled “More Than TV” strategy and its plan to grow UK and global productions.

McCall joined ITV in January and launched a review of the company’s strategy in light of the rapidly-changing media landscape. As a result, the plan aims to strengthen ITV’s position as an integrated producer broadcaster while growing UK and global productions, and developing its direct-to-consumer relationships.

The “More Than TV” approach will build upon ITV’s creativity and commercial strength to enable the network to drive profit from three separate sources – advertisers, broadcasters/platforms and consumers.

McCall will address delegates in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais de Festivals on the morning of Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m.

The 2018 edition of the MIPCOM market runs Oct. 15-18 in Cannes, France.

Germany gets No More Boys and Girls

London-based indie TV distributor DRG has sent social experiment format No More Boys and Girls to Germany.

The 2 x 45-minute mini-series, which will premiere across German pubcaster ZDF’s Neo channel, explores whether the way we treat young boys and girls fosters a life-long sense of inequality between men and women. The format will be produced locally by Bavaria Entertainment.

The series, originally produced by Outline Productions for BBC2, a pioneering approach from Sweden in which a class of 30 seven-year-olds is turned into a gender-neutral school to determine whether the approach could help close the gender gap in adult life.

DRG has also announced sales for the original 2 x 60-minute series to a raft of international broadcasters and platforms, including ABC Australia, VPRO in the Netherlands, VTM in Belgium, TVB in Hong Kong, DBS in Israel, Telefonica in Spain and Sky in New Zealand.
