Smithsonian Networks has elevated long-time executive Joseph Giraldi to the post of EVP of digital media.

Giraldi joined Smithsonian in 2009 as VP of digital before climbing to SVP of digital media in 2013. In his most recent role, Giraldi has been responsible for building and leading a fully integrated digital media team while also leading strategy, marketing, and product and business development for Smithsonian Channel.

Giraldi also oversaw the development and launch of nature and wildlife SVOD service Smithsonian Earth in 2015. In addition, the seasoned executive led all efforts in launching original digital content and series for Smithsonian Channel’s digital platforms and Smithsonian Earth.

Prior to joining Smithsonian Networks nine years ago, Giraldi worked as an independent digital media and marketing consultant. Before that, he held the title of director of digital distribution and strategic partnerships at premium cable outlet HBO, and various senior roles at Time Inc. and IBM.
