NBC has announced that singer, songwriter and actor John Legend will be coming on board its flagship talent competition format The Voice as a coach.

Legend will join returning coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, along with host Carson Daly, for the show’s 16th season in 2019.

He’ll take over coaching duties from Jennifer Hudson, who will depart after season 15, which premieres Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

The news comes on the heels of Legend’s Emmy win as a producer on NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, elevating him to EGOT status — the unofficial label for those who have won one or more of each major performing arts award: the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and Tonys.

“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of The Voice,” said Legend, in a press release. “I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.”

The Voice is a presentation of MGM Television, Talpa Media USA Inc. and Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television. It was created by John de Mol, who serves as executive producer with Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Amanda Zucker, Kyra Thompson and Stijn Bakkers.
