Channel 5′s long-running reality franchise Big Brother is coming to an end on the British commercial television network.

According to a statement from Channel 5, after season 19 of the Endemol Shine UK-produced series premieres today (Sept. 15), neither a celebrity nor a civilian version of the series will return to the network.

The reality game show series first debuted in 2000 on UK pubcaster Channel 4 before moving to C5 in 2011, where its contract expires this year.

“We’d like to thank Endemol and all of the production team who have worked tirelessly to make the show a success,” Channel 5 said in a statement, adding, “We look forward to giving the final series a brilliant send-off.”

While the final season of Big Brother premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Channel 5, Endemol Shine UK, a division of Endemol Shine Group, could sell the program’s rights to another British channel. A request for comment from Endemol Shine UK was not immediately returned, but in a statement the company said: “Whilst disappointed not to reach an agreement with Channel 5 the decision opens up a new chapter and we are excited to about future possibilities for Big Brother in the UK.”

The statement also noted that latest series of Celebrity Big Brother was the highest rated show for the channel this year, “growing its audience year on year by 17% and tripling the channel’s slot average for 16-24′s.”
