Bernadine Lim has been named head of documentary at Screen Australia.

Lim will oversee the documentary unit and report to Sally Caplan, head of content at Screen Australia.

She comes to the role after working as an executive producer of Australian broadcaster SBS’ Dateline program since 2014. Prior to that, she had directed the films World’s Most Dangerous Journey and Lost Children of China.

She has also produced and directed projects with BBC World, National Geographic, Discovery International, TVNZ, TV3, NBCUniversal, CNBC and SBS television; worked as a creative producer at London’s BSkyB Promos; and has directed commercials and music videos, and produced short films throughout her 20-plus-year career.

“Bernadine’s industry knowledge and expertise across a myriad of formats and genres makes her the perfect choice for this new role as the head of the Documentary Unit,” said Caplan, in a statement. “She is passionate about the power of documentary as a form of storytelling and will be a fantastic asset not just to the agency, but to the sector as a whole.”

Lim will assume the role on Nov. 8.
