Gil Formats’ Life on Duty lands in the UK 

Gil Formats, the Tel Aviv-based global TV content creator and distributor, has inked a deal with UK prodco Spun Gold for its primetime factual entertainment format Life on Duty

Created by Gil Formats, who also distributes the property, Life on Duty follows workers at several emergency services. The series contrasts the job challenges of the emergency workers with their often neglected private lives.

Previous deals for the format were signed in the U.S. with Propagate Content; Bulldog TV in Italy; and Boxfish TV in Brazil and Argentina. Additionally, Spain will launch a sophomore season this fall on Mediaset’s Cuatro.

VH1 to relaunch as lifestyle channel in UK

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) will relaunch VH1 in the UK as a lifestyle and general entertainment channel, effective Oct. 2.

The current music channel will be home to unscripted shows and will debut a roster of U.S. reality programs for the first time in the UK, including Love and Hip Hop Miami, as well as the full back catalog of the award-winning RuPaul’s Drag Race (pictured) and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

The MTV UK brand team will manage and program VH1.

Red Arrow Int’l nabs The Weekly 

Red Arrow Studios International, the distribution arm of Red Arrow Studios, has secured global rights to distribute the forthcoming New York Times news-based narrative docuseries The Weekly.

Produced by The New York Times and Left/Right Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company, The Weekly will feature one or two of The Times’s most significant visual stories each week. The series will delve into the stories behind the headlines that would otherwise be left behind.

The Weekly has been commissioned by 21st Century Fox-owned net FX, which has first-run North American rights, in conjunction with streaming service Hulu. It is slated to premiere in 2019.
