NBCUniversal true crime net Oxygen Media will examine the psychology of serial killer Edmund Kemper in an upcoming special from Philadelphia-based unscripted prodco Glass Entertainment Group.

Kemper on Kemper: Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer features an exclusive interview with former FBI special agent John Douglas, who interrogated Kemper extensively and revolutionized the FBI Behavioral Science Unit. Also featured in the special is former FBI consultant Ann Burgess, who collaborated with Douglas, and forensic psychologist Louis Schlesinger, who currently works with the FBI, building upon Douglas and Burgess’ work.

Kemper’s interviews and recordings of his crimes provided the FBI with the blueprint for modern criminal psychology.

Known as the “The Co-Ed Killer,” between 1969 and 1973 Kemper murdered, sexually assaulted, and mutilated the corpses of multiple victims, including his own mother.

The special will feature never-before-seen audio and video, and will explore Kemper’s troubled background.

Nancy Glass, Jon Hirsch, Eric Neuhaus, and JC Mills serve as executive producers on the project.

Kemper on Kemper: Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer bows Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on Oxygen.
