UK commercial broadcaster Channel 5 has commissioned Reef Television, a Zinc Media company, to produce a documentary series that examines the alarming rise in police ‘Code Zero’ callouts.

Code Zero: Police Under Attack (w/t; 4 x 60 minutes) will utilize police footage of real incidents, including body cams, dash cams and radio communications, to reveal the daily strife and emotional turmoil that law enforcement officers face in the line of duty.

A ‘Code Zero’ is the radio call sign issued by police officers who need urgent backup assistance in a dangerous situation, often when they are under attack and their lives are at stake. With rising crime, a diminished police force, a code zero goes out every six minutes across the UK, according to solutions company Airwave.

Reef Television’s Rachel Platt serves as executive producer on the series, with Channel 5′s Daniel Pearl listed as commissioning editor.
