Imagine Documentaries is working with Tony-winning playwright and performer Sarah Jones on a new docuseries exploring women, sex, power and identity in the current political and cultural climate.

She the People was inspired by Jones’ (pictured) research while developing and writing her plays, including her latest Sell/Buy/Date, in which she portrays 17 multicultural characters each inspired by real people from around the world.

Each episode of She the People will see Jones showcase her own perspectives while exploring specific issues and places, including visiting the Red Light District of Amsterdam, going on a run with the border patrol in San Diego and heading to Congress with a small town woman turned first-time politician.

She the People is produced by Jones’ Foment Productions and is executive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Michael Rosenberg, Justin Wilkes and Sara Bernstein for Imagine, along with Julie Oh, Abby Ex and Jones.

It’s the first docuseries set under the recently formed Imagine Documentaries banner led by Wilkes. Imagine is also currently producing Ron Howard’s documentary about opera legend Luciano Pavarotti, to be released in 2019.

“Sarah’s funny, poignant and mischievous voice is a welcome antidote to the issues playing out across today’s headlines,” said Wilkes in a statement. “These topics have become part of our daily conversation and Sarah’s series will help us navigate these uncharted waters in an unconventional and entertaining way.”

“Finding the connections between vastly different people, while maintaining a sense of humor, has always been my passion, and feels needed in times like these,” added Jones.

No premiere date or broadcast partners have yet been set for She the People.
