British commercial broadcaster ITV2 has commissioned London indie Zig Zag Productions to produce a one-off special that will document a deadly escape challenge from magician Ben Hanlin and television personality Joey Essex.

The 90-minute Ben Hanlin’s Live & Deadly: Drowned will document Hanlin (pictured) and Essex as they attempt to escape from a deserted underground chamber, live on Halloween night. The duo will be chained and shackled to the floor as the chamber slowly fills to the brim with water.

The one-off will also follow the pair in pre-recorded segments as they train over a five-day period to perfect their escape.

Joining Hanlin and Essex in their death-defying feat is presenter and broadcaster Vick Hope, who will be ringside commenting on all the action live as they attempt their most ambitious stunt.

Ben Hanlin’s Live & Deadly: Drowned is executive produced by Zig Zag’s Andy Scott and Danny Fenton.

It was commissioned by ITV commissioning executive Gayani Wanigaratne and Paul Mortimer, ITV’s head of digital channels and acquisitions.
