BBC Studios has elevated Matthew Forde to the global role of managing director of international production and formats.

With the new title, Forde will oversee the company’s nine international production hubs and formats businesses outside of the UK. His mandate will include Australia, the U.S., France and India, as well as joint ventures in Germany, South Africa, the Nordics, Brazil and Benelux.

Local lead executives in Australia, New Zealand and in South and South East Asia will report to Forde on production matters.

Additionally, Forde will continue to have direct oversight of the Los Angeles production leadership team, which develops and produces entertainment, unscripted, and scripted content including BBC and indie reformats, as well as new and original shows for linear and digital platforms.

Forde had been acting in the role on an interim basis since the spring. He will now permanently take up the position and reports to Anna Mallett, BBC Studios’ COO and MD of production.

Forde has headed up the BBC Studios’ LA offices since September 2016, leading the development on ABC’s competition format Dancing With the Stars and its spin-offs – Dancing with the Stars Athletes and Dancing with the Stars Junior – as well as managing National Geographic’s Emmy-winning series Life Below Zero.

He was previously EVP of coproductions, sales and digital distribution at BBC Worldwide Americas.
